History

Built out of academic research and deep technical expertise to serve some of the most demanding IT organizations in the world.

Neptuny was founded by academic researchers and consultants specialized on IT Performance Optimization. Fabio Violante, Neptuny CEO, after having worked in designing IT architectures for Sun, HP and Accenture, had the idea of providing specialized consulting and solutions for optimizing large IT environments and applications.

In 2000, Fabio Violante co-founded Neptuny with Paolo Cremonesi, Neptuny CTO and Professor at Politecnico di Milano, an expert in distributed and parallel computation, system performance evaluation and capacity planning. Thanks to the initial sponsorship from the Politecnico di Milano, one of Europe’s top technology universities, and Bain & Co., a strategical consulting firm, Neptuny was able to bring together a team of talented IT performance engineers. Stefano Visconti, a specialist in telecommunications and performance engineering, was appointed as Head of R&D.

The company started growing at an impressive rate since its foundation, by gaining important customers (in particular in the Telco and Finance sectors) and increasing its product and service portfolio. In particular, Caplan, its flagship product, was adopted by major European companies for managing their large data centers and networks. In 2005, Paolo Bozzola, Neptuny COO, previously senior manager at Accenture, joined Neptuny bringing his long-standing consulting experience for leading companies in government, utilities and financial services sectors.

In 2006, Neptuny, leveraging its expertise and technology, released Contentwise, an innovative content recommendation engine for IPTV providers. Contentwise was adopted by a major European triple-player Telco and shortlisted at the IPTV World Series Awards 2008 at the IPTV World Forum.

More recently, Neptuny has expanded worldwide, by gaining important customers also in the US, and by partnering with major vendors and services providers. Neptuny has been named “Cool Vendor in IT Operations 2009″ by Gartner Group.
