Capacity Management
Correlate business and infrastructure KPIs to measure your ability to sustain business demand and prevent capacity issues by simulating workload changes.
Companies rely on IT to run their business and therefore need to control and plan their infrastructure and services to manage demand against financial and operational constraints. Capacity Management tools and processes enable IT organizations to achieve cost reduction and risk avoidance objectives. To effectively implement enterprise-level Capacity Management process, such tools must provide several key capabilities. They must be able to manage all infrastructure components, relate capacity needs to business drivers, provide high levels of automation and integrate with other IT Service Management tools and processes.
Caplan for Capacity Management
Caplan enables user to implement an end-to-end, continuous Capacity Management process for medium and large data centers and networks. Caplan is based on a scalable and agent-less architecture that can collect both resource and business KPIs from virtually any data source. Caplan makes analytical and modeling capabilities easily accessible without requiring mathematical and statistical background.
Caplan provides:
- Ability to consolidate in a single repository a.k.a. Capacity Database or CMIS, performance and configuration data related to all infrastructure components, such as physical and virtual servers, databases, middleware, applications, storage, networks, facilities and more
- Ability to analyze current resource and workload behavior, identify performance issue and deviation from baselines, forecast resource and workload trends and automatically notify (via mail or alerts) predicted capacity issues at both resource and service level
- Ability to simulate what-if scenarios related to infrastructure chages (e.g. scale-in/out or scale-up/down) and business changes (e.g. expected customer base growth, transaction volume growth)
- Ability to simulate consolidation and virtualization (i.e. P2P, P2V, V2V) scenarios to right size physical and virtual infrastructure and optimize the placements of workloads and virtual machines
- Ability to generate Accounting and Chargeback reports at different levels (e.g. service/department/customer/…) and to simulate the impact of infrastructure and cost model changes (e.g. from fixed- or allocation-based to utilization-based cost models)
- Ability to automatically generate reports (on a scheduled base), allow users to easily create on-demand reports from the Caplan web interface (in few clicks) and to send “by-exception reports” by mail in case of predicted capacity issues
- Ability to automatically publish analyses, models are reports on Caplan web interfaces and easily-customizable dashboard views tailored for technical or business roles
