Architecture

Discover how Caplan® agent-less architecture can integrate performance and configuration metrics and business KPIs to effectively support a continuous, comprehensive Capacity Management.

Caplan is based on an agent-less architecture that has been specifically designed and implemented to collect performance, configuration and workloads data, as well as operational events and non IT metrics. Caplan robust architecture is able to scale in terms of integrated data sources, data volumes, users and generated outputs to manage very large data centers and networks.

Caplan architecture

Caplan major components include:

  • Out-of-the-box connectors to the major management platforms (e.g. HP OpenView, BMC Patrol, IBM Tivoli, VMware vCenter, EMC ControlCenter), monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios, Cacti, Zenoss, etc.), native interfaces (e.g. UNIX CLI, WMI, SNMP) and custom data sources (e.g. applications, databases, log files)
  • Capacity Database (CDB), based on Oracle data warehouse technology, where all data are stored and automatically aggregated, summarized and pruned (according to custom retention policies)
  • Sophisticated forecasting and analytical modeling engines providing support to automatically create performance and workload analyses, time forecasting analyses, change and consolidation simulations
  • Embedded reporting engine (based on Eclipse BIRT) providing support for all phases of the reporting lifecycle: design, generation (scheduled, on-demand and by-exception) and publishing (in PDF, HTML, RTF and other formats)
  • User-friendly web console and easily-customizable web dashboard views (portal based) to enable final users (e.g. operations and service managers) to access all data and functions according to their specific role
